One of the big pieces of creating guided demos are Guides. Guides are particularly useful for product tours and leave behinds.
There are two guide types; tethered and floating. Floating guides are going to float on your page and are typically used first in your demo flow to welcome you to the demo, closing your demo, or a call to action. Tethered guides are guides that are tethered to elements to highlight specific parts of your app.
Follow the instructions below to learn how to add guides to your demo:
1. Select an element on your screen.
2. Select the guide icon that appears above the selected element.
3. Select the guide type; floating or tethered. Floating guides are going to float on your page and are typically used first in your demo flow to welcome you to the demo, closing your demo, or a call to action. Tethered guides are guides that are tethered to elements to highlight specific parts of your app.
4. Type your guide text and change the text formatting.
5. If you're using a tethered guide, use the "On Click Action" dropdown to make the element clickable. Select your action from the dropdown.
6. With both tethered and floating guides you can add buttons to your guide that can take you to the next step in your demo flow, a screen, or a URL.
7. With tethered guides you can change the position of your guide, add a pulsing animation around the element, or change the opacity of the backdrop and add a spotlight to highlight your guide. For floating guides, use the backdrop toggle.
- Opacity (Backdrop): Controls how light or dark the background screen is behind the guide. At 100%, the screen is fully darkened and only the guide is visible. At 0%, the screen remains at full brightness. Adjusting this helps control how much attention is drawn to the guide.
- Spotlight: Highlights the element the guide is tethered to. You can adjust padding around the element or round its corners to change the effect. If Spotlight is enabled and opacity is at 100%, only the guide and the highlighted element remain visible.
- Pulse: Adds a pulsing animation around the element for extra emphasis.
Together, these settings help you control how much focus is placed on your guide and the element it’s attached to, depending on the purpose of your demo flow.
8. Press the Plus button in the top right hand corner of the guide editor to add a video from a URL, Audio from a URL, or media from your saved assets.
9. Make sure you're using a direct embed link for your video URL. You can choose whether to have your video or audio auto play or not. Note some browser settings may override this selection and need you to interact with the video before it begins playing. When auto-playing YouTube videos, copy the browser's URL directly.
10. Press Save when you are finished editing your guide.
11. The guide will appear below the screen in the screen flow on the left hand side for you to view and edit. You can also drag and drop the guide order from here. If you wish to move the guide position on your screen, you can simply drag and drop it. This may be useful when merging demo flow steps so all guides appear simultaneously rather than sequentially.
