Data Studio- AI Dataset Assistant

Customize your demo data at any level—widget or dataset-wide—with just a few prompts.

Data Studio gives you two powerful AI tools to streamline how you update and personalize your demo data:

  • AI Assistant – for editing individual widgets like charts, tables, or graphs

  • Dataset Assistant – for making changes across your entire dataset at once

Together, these assistants make it easy to customize demos for different audiences, anonymize sensitive content, or ensure consistent data across all parts of your demo—quickly and efficiently.

⚠️ Reminder: Do not enter real customer information or personally identifiable information (PII). Use placeholder or anonymized data only when working with either assistant.

Option 1: AI Assistant (Edit an Individual Widget)

Use the AI Assistant to update a specific chart, table, or graph that’s been mapped to your dataset. This is helpful when you want to make targeted changes to a particular part of your demo.

How to Use:

  1. Select the Dataset
Begin by opening the dataset you want to customize in Data Studio.

  2. Choose the Widget
Identify the specific widget you’d like to edit within your demo’s product area, such as a table, chart, or graph.

  4. Provide Instructions
Type your instructions into the chat box. Be as specific as possible about the changes you want to make. For example:

    • "Translate all text in the 'description' column to English."
    • "Change 'manufacturer names' to represent mining equipment suppliers."

  5. Save Changes
Once the AI Assistant has completed the edits, press Done and the Save Data button to save the modified dataset.

  6. Inject the Dataset
Use Data Injection to inject the updated dataset into your demo environment. For detailed steps, refer to How to Use Data Injection to Inject Datasets.

Option 2: Dataset Assistant (Edit the Full Dataset)

Use the Dataset Assistant to apply changes across the entire dataset—spanning multiple pages, tables, charts, and widgets. This is ideal for ensuring consistency throughout your demo, especially when updating themes, industries, or formats across many data points.

In addition to making sweeping dataset changes, the Dataset Assistant allows you to choose whether to edit the existing dataset or create a new version. This flexibility supports version control and allows you to test changes without overwriting your original data.

Every time you use the Dataset Assistant, a backup of your dataset is automatically saved. You can also create manual backups at any time, so it’s easy to revert if needed.

How to Use:

  1. Open your dataset in Data Studio.

  2. Click the Dataset Assistant button at the top of the screen.

  3. Enter your instructions in the chat box. Choose whether you want to edit the existing dataset or create a new dataset version.
    Examples:

    • “Translate the entire dataset to German.”

    • “Update all customer names, company names, and email addresses to be anonymized.”

    • “Apply a seasonal sales trend across all charts and tables with a 30% variance.”

  4. Processing may take a bit longer than for individual data. Review the output, then Save Data.

    5. Find your backups by selecting the 3 dots in the top right hand corner.

    6. Create a new backup or manage existing backups from here. This ensures that edits made via AI can always be 'undone' by going back to a prior version of the dataset. Backups can be created manually and are automatically created whenever edits are made with AI.
